The KDD-2007 organizing committee invites proposals for tutorials to be held in conjunction with the conference. Tutorials are an effective way to educate conference attendees about specific topics, or to provide background necessary to understand technical advances. For KDD-2007, we are seeking proposals for tutorials of 2.5 to 3 hours in duration. For examples of typical KDD tutorials, see the set of accepted tutorials for previous conferences. IMPORTANT DATES:

Tutorial proposals due: Feb 28, 2007
Notification of acceptance/rejection: March 28, 2007
Camera-ready tutorial notes due: June 22, 2007

PROPOSAL DETAILS:

Proposals should be submitted electronically by February 28 to the Tutorials Chair: Bart Goethals (goethals at gmail dot com). Proposals should be in either PDF or ASCII format and include the following:

* Basic information:
Title, brief description, name and contact information for each tutor, length of the proposed tutorial. Also identify any other venues in which the tutorial has been or will be presented. Any evidence supporting excellent teaching skills will enhance chances of acceptance.

* Audience:
Proposals must clearly identify the intended audience for the tutorial (e.g., novice users of statistical techniques, or expert researchers in text mining). What background will be required of the audience? Why is this topic important/interesting to the KDD community? What is the benefit to participants? Provide some informal evidence that people would attend the tutorial (e.g., related workshops and tutorials).

* Coverage:
Enough material should be included to provide a sense of both the scope of material to be covered and the depth to which it will be covered. The more details that can be provided, the better (up to and including links to the actual slides). Note that the tutors should NOT focus mainly on their own research results. A KDD tutorial is not a forum for promoting one's research or product. If, for certain parts of the tutorial, the material comes directly from the tutors' own research or product, please indicate this in the proposal.

* Bios:
Brief biographical information on each tutor (including qualifications with respect to the tutorial's topic).

* Special Equipment:
Please indicate any additional equipment needed (if any). The standard equipment includes a LCD projector, an overhead projector, a single projection screen and cordless microphones.
